The Evilyns Sketchbook: 5

Pink Chaise continued... continued...

Spent the past week performing some serious surgery on the pink chaise illustration and felt nearly as confused as the Evilyns.  Sometimes I rework and rework illustrations in the wrong direction, but I think in this case I'm seeing some good results.

Here's a print out of the illustration on my wall.  Always helps to see it printed out full size.

I've started drawing with mainly just a brush -- usually I draw with a pen -- and it's liberated the look of the characters a ton.  For example, the mom character went through a major transformation.  She used to be a frosty queen but now as you can see she has loosened up quite a bit.  Here's a before and after her lobotomy.

Working with a zillion overlays and piecing everything together is not my preferred way of working, but that's how this illustration went; it changed bit by bit.  Here's a few of the early overlays and a shot of the final characters.  These were then comped into the illustration.  Here's also yet another early image of that same mom -- loosen up gurl!

Here's a strange little dude that popped into my head in the middle of the night and the sketch that resulted.  I think he will make his way into the illustration somehow.  More on him later....
